Shanmugam, Garza reaffirm Singapore-Mexico relations
Foreign Affairs and Law Minister K Shanmugam and Mexico's Industry and Commerce Undersecretary Jose Rogelio Garza yesterday reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening trade and investment links between the two countries.
Mr Shanmugam, in Mexico for an official visit from May 16 to 20, expressed Singapore's interest in expanding bilateral cooperation in the areas of energy and infrastructure development.
During his visit, he also had a roundtable discussion with prominent Mexican business leaders and representatives of Singapore companies based in Mexico City. They discussed investment opportunities in Mexico, and the possibility of tapping into the broader North America, Pacific Alliance and Latin American markets.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement that the minister encouraged Mexico to look to Singapore as a prime hub from which companies can explore opportunities in Asia-Pacific. Mr Shanmugam also said he hopes to bring about greater trade and investment links between Latin America and Southeast Asia.
