Singapore is playing host to Korea's Director General, Maritime Safety Policy Bureau, Ministry of Land, Transport and Maritime Affairs Jang Hwang-Ho.
His visit from 24 to 25 January is under the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore's Distinguished Visitors Programme.
Mr Jang has close to 20 years of experience in the maritime sector.
Mr Jang met Minister for Transport, Mr Lui Tuck Yew, as well as Chief Executive of MPA Mr Lam Yi Young and members of MPA's senior management.
Key maritime issues such as co-operation on port state control, safety of navigation in the Straits of Malacca and Singapore, regional maritime security and protection of the marine environment were discussed.
"MPA is very pleased to host Mr Jang. His visit provides an excellent opportunity for Singapore and the Republic of Korea to exchange views on maritime issues of common interest. We believe that this visit will further bolster ties between our maritime administrations," said Mr Lam.
In conjunction with the visit, Mr Jang and Mr Lam co-chaired the 3rd bilateral meeting under the Memorandum of Understanding on Maritime Co-operation.
The annual meetings provide an excellent platform for maritime officials of Singapore and Republic of Korea to discuss and exchange views on maritime matters.
Mr Jang's stay includes visits to MPA facilities such as the Port Operations Control Centre at PSA Vista and the Integrated Simulation Centre at the Singapore Polytechnic.
