SINGAPORE: It has become a regular affair for Singapore ministers to go across the Causeway for the Hari Raya Open House hosted by the Sultan of Johor.
This year, three Singapore Cabinet ministers made the trip.
The Hari Raya festive spirit was celebrated not just in Singapore but also across the Causeway in the southern Malaysian state of Johor.
Foreign Affairs and Law Minister K Shanmugam, Health Minister Gan Kim Yong and Acting Community Development, Youth and Sports Minister Chan Chun Sing were there for the Hari Raya Open House hosted by Sultan Ibrahim Iskandar and Raja Zarith Sofiah.
The ministers, who were accompanied by their wives, were also hosted to lunch.
The Sultan and ministers affirmed the good relations between Singapore and Johor, as well as the strong ties at all levels.
They also welcomed the growing co—operation between Singapore and Malaysia in Iskandar Malaysia.
Since 1997, the Sultan of Johor has opened the doors to his palace as part of Hari Raya celebrations. And for the first time, it’s been held at the Istana Pasir Pelangi.
The first day is usually reserved for the Sultan’s family members and invited guests while the public can feast their eyes on the palace the next day.
