S’pore must continue to welcome high—quality investments: PM Lee

SINGAPORE: Singapore must continue to welcome high—quality investments as the country upgrades its economy, said Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong.

Writing on his Facebook page on Wednesday after having dinner with the Rolls—Royce Board in Singapore, he said high—quality investments like those by Rolls—Royce have created skilled and well—paying jobs for Singaporeans.

He noted that Singapore’s partnership with Rolls—Royce goes way back to the 1950s.

Since then, Rolls—Royce has continued to increase its investments in Singapore.

Last year, Mr Lee launched the Rolls—Royce Seletar Campus, which manufactures the latest Trent engines used on A380 Airbus aircraft, and the very high tech, wide—chord fan blades that go into those engines.

Mr Lee noted that Singapore is the only place outside the UK to do so.

The project has created many good jobs for Singaporeans who make up most of the workforce, and has helped the country become a global aerospace hub.

Mr Lee hopes Singapore’s partnership with Rolls—Royce will continue for many more years to come.
