RSN declares 48-hour safety time-out after incident which leaves navy man injured

The Republic of Singapore Navy (RSN) has declared a 48-hour safety time-out, which started yesterday, for its Frigates, Missile Corvettes and Landing Ship Tanks.

This follows an accident which left a navy serviceman critically injured.

In a statement, the Defence Ministry said the safety time-out will allow the RSN to review its operating and safety procedures.

Weapon Systems Supervisor Jason Ch

ee Weng Fai remains in critical condition.

He's warded at the Changi General Hospital.

MediaCorp understands that Mr Chee is expected to be in the Intensive Care Unit for a few days.

Mr Chee has undergone surgery.

The Military Expert was injured yesterday when he got caught between a motorised winch and a rope on the Landing Ship Tank, RSS Endeavour.

He was checking on a berthing rope that was being tightened when the incident happened.

The Singapore Armed Forces has said that it is investigating the cause of the incident.
