Review of PSLE underway as part of a broader re-look of education system

The Primary School Leaving Examination, or PSLE, is under review, as part of a broader re-look into Singapore's education system.

Education Minister Heng Swee Keat provided this update at Crest Secondary School, Singapore's first specialised school for Normal (Technical) students.

The PSLE has been said to over-emphasise the role of examinations at an early age.

Mr Heng said the review will look at a range of options.

"There are a number of key pieces we're working on, including the review of the PSLE, and how we use the results of the PSLE, but let me emphasise that we should not be seeing it in isolation, we should not be looking at the exams in isolation, but rather as part of a broader review of the different parts of our education system. The work has been going on quite intensively for the last few months. Our education system is quite interlinked, different components, different parts of our system is interlinked. You cannot change one part without changing another part."
