SINGAPORE: Retail sales in Singapore decreased 1.1 per cent in June compared to the previous month. Excluding motor vehicles, retail sales declined 1.2 per cent, the Department of Statistics said on Friday (Aug 15).
When compared to June 2013, retail sales increased 0.4 per cent this year. However, excluding motor vehicles, retail sales fell 2.1 per cent year-on-year, the data showed.
Sales of telecommunications apparatus and computers and recreational goods saw the highest on-month drop at 9.3 per cent and 8.1 per cent, respectively. Conversely, the biggest jump in sales was seen for furniture and household equipment (3.8 per cent) and petrol service stations (2.1 per cent), according to the statistics.
In dollar terms, total retail sales value in June 2014 was estimated at S$3.2 billion, higher than the S$3.1 billion in June 2013.
Sales of food and beverage (F&B) services decreased 1.9 per cent month-on-month in June, and fell 2.1 per cent year-on-year. Only fast food outlets saw a sales increase - 0.5 per cent month-on-month - while the other categories all fell.
The total sales value of F&B services in June 2014 was estimated at S$631 million, lower than the S$645 million in June 2013.
