Residents of Ang Mo Kio and Tampines mark National Day




Residents in Ang Mo Kio and Tampines marked the nation's 47th birthday at community events this morning. 

Celebrations kicked off with Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong joining residents at Teck Ghee Community Club, where there was singing, dancing and cutting of the cake. 

Many also took the opportunity to take a photograph with Mr Lee and his wife. 

Over at Tampines Education Minister Heng Swee Keat joined residents in commemorating the big day, waving flags and visiting the breakfast crowd at the market. 

Mr Heng who has been appointed to chair a committee of younger ministers to take a fresh look at policies. 

He told his audience that he's very excited about the task and looks forward to the active support of all Singaporeans. 

He wants Singaporeans to come together to envision the kind of country Singapore would be in 20 years' time.
