Residents affected by smoke from hotel fire consider seeking compensation

Residents affected by smoke from yesterday's five-hour hotel fire at East Village Hotel may seek compensation from the property's owner.

The owner, Far East Organization, said it will be contacting the residents to offer help.

Residents from houses affected by smoke from the fire have been busy cleaning up.

The incident left some worried about safety, and potential risks from other construction sites in the area.

The fire also affected businesses in the area.

One bicycle store beside the hotel was shut for six hours, and shop owner Kenny Ng estimated he lost 6,000 Sing dollars of business.

Far East Organization said it's talking to insurance firms on how those in the vicinity affected by the fire can be assisted.

The company added that all guests sent to hospital yesterday for smoke inhalation treatment have been discharged.
