SINGAPORE: Vote counting for the Punggol East by—election is now underway.

Polling stations closed at 8pm on Saturday.

Ballot boxes from the 10 polling centres were brought to two counting centres —— North Vista Secondary School and Rivervale Primary School —— under heavy security.

The Elections Department has deployed 250 personnel to conduct the polls — which saw a four—cornered contest for the Single Member Constituency seat.

Ms Lee Li Lian of the Workers’ Party was seen at the North Vista Secondary counting centre.

She was joined by Reform Party’s Kenneth Jeyaretnam and Singapore Democratic Alliance’s Desmond Lim.

People’s Action Party’s Koh Poh Koon was the last of the four candidates to arrive at the counting centre.

The results, which are expected after 10pm, will be announced by Returning Officer Yam Ah Mee at the North Vista Secondary School counting centre.
