Punggol East residents anticipating other parties’ candidates

SINGAPORE: The People’s Action Party (PAP) has unveiled its candidate and residents in Punggol East said they are looking forward to the opposition parties doing the same.

"Definitely we want (to know the other candidates) as soon as possible so that we can weigh which one would be better, then we can vote for them, right?" said Peter Ng, a Punggol East resident.

His views were echoed by fellow resident Noor Marican.

Residents whom Channel NewsAsia spoke to also raised local issues which they want addressed.

"I hope they complete the renovations (at Rivervale Plaza) soon, especially the flooring," said a resident who only wanted to be known as Mr Yang.

Upgrading works at Rivervale Plaza had stalled in 2012 as the contractor had gone bust. A new contractor has been appointed and works are expected to be completed in June this year.

"Especially play areas, we don’t have enough play areas in the blocks," added fellow resident Preashanthi.
