SINGAPORE: Commuters who use the Punggol East LRT can expect shorter waiting times and less crowded trains during the evening peak hours.
From October 1, operator SBS Transit is adding 50 train trips during the weekday evening peak period from 6.15pm to 8.30pm on the Outer Loop.
SBS Transit said on Monday that this will improve the frequency of trains — with one coming every 5 to 6 minutes instead of 6 to 7 minutes currently.
It said since August 2011, average daily ridership on the Punggol East LRT has been growing steadily — by 40 per cent in the last year.
Today, the system ferries on average more than 25,000 commuters a day.
