Public hearing on Little India COI to start on 19th Feb
The public hearing for the Committee of Inquiry (COI) on the Little India Riot will start on the 19th of February at the Subordinate Courts.
This was announced in a statement by the COI Secretariat.
Persons or parties who wish to give evidence or make representations at the Inquiry are invited to notify the Secretariat at COI_secretariat@mha.gov.sg, no later than the 5th of February.
Members of public are also welcomed to attend the hearing.
In an update on its work since its appointment on the 13th of December, the COI says it had conducted interviews with 20 of the 57 foreign workers before they were repatriated.
An investigation team from the Central Narcotics Bureau has also been appointed to conduct investigations into the possible causes of the riot on the 8th of December.
It has to date spoken to various witnesses including Police and Singapore Civil Defence Force officers, residents and shopkeepers in the Little India area, as well as the bus driver and time-keeper involved in the incident.
The findings will be presented at the public hearing.
The COI will submit its findings and recommendations to the Minister for Home Affairs after the public hearing.
