SINGAPORE: National water agency PUB has stepped up efforts to prepare for the upcoming Northeast Monsoon season.
It has intensified inspections at construction sites around Singapore to check for obstructions in drains to ensure drainage at these locations will function effectively during heavy rains.
The monsoon season is likely to arrive mid-November and last till March next year.
The Meteorological Services Singapore expects rainfall during the coming monsoon season to be average to slightly above average compared to previous years.
PUB has also identified new sites for drainage improvement.
They include Tampines Canal from Upper Serangoon Road to Serangoon Road, and Pioneer Sector Outlet Drain.
The new sites are among 36 locations for forthcoming drainage improvement works announced in a PUB statement on Monday.
The new projects add to the drainage improvement projects at another 176 locations. - CNA/fa
