PUB invites proposals for second NEWater plant to be built by 2016
National water agency PUB has invited local and international companies to submit proposals for the construction of the second NEWater plant at Changi.
When completed in 2016, the new plant will add another 228,000 cubic metres of NEWater a day to Singapore's water supply.
The successful bidder will also enter into a 25-year agreement to supply NEWater to PUB, starting from 2016.
The agreement will set out the tariff structure, as well as the terms and conditions for the supply and purchase of NEWater.
NEWater is water that has been reclaimed through the use of advanced membrane technologies.
It currently meets 30 per cent of Singapore's water demand, and this is set to increase up to 55 per cent in the long run.
