PTC struck a good balance: Lui Tuck Yew
Transport Minister Lui Tuck Yew says the Public Transport Council, PTC, has struck a good balance by keeping the fare increase a few notches below the average wage increase in 2013, while enhancing concessions for a significant segment of commuters.
He noted that it's also introducing new products like the unlimited travel monthly passes for senior citizens and for other adults.
In Facebook post, Mr Lui says overall he believes this will continue to keep public transport affordable for Singaporeans.
Referring to the two concessions schemes for low wage workers and the disabled, Mr Lui says his ministry is working very closely with partner agencies like Ministry for Social and Family Development, the Ministry for Manpower and the CPF Board to ensure that the application process be made as fuss-free and smooth as possible.
He expects some hiccups along the way as the infrastructure and processes are being set up from scratch.
More details of eligibility, how and when to apply, will be made known in the next few weeks.
Mr Lui thanked the PTC for undertaking the difficult assignment.
