Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong has held talks with US officials
Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong has held talks with US Vice President Joe Biden in Washington DC.
According to a statement from the White House, the two leaders discussed what the US described as China's destablising behaviour in the South China Sea.
A meeting with leaders of the House of Representatives subcommittee on seapower also underscored the fact that Prime Minister Lee has been asked several times this week about what role the US can play in the region's territorial and maritime disputes.
His answer: leadership by example.
US President Barack Obama also dropped by on a meeting Prime Minister Lee had with National Security Advisor Susan Rice.
According to the Prime Minister's office, Mr Lee welcomed the US' active Asia policy, especially Mr Obama's strong commitment and personal engagement with the region.
Prime Minister Lee will now head to New York.
There, he'll formally launch the New York office of Singapore Investment firm Temasek Holdings, a symbol of the growing trade relationship between the US and Singapore.
Prime Minister Lee says this is just one tangible indicator of a long-term US commitment to the region.
