SINGAPORE: Singaporeans were given a sneak peek at the opening ceremony for the inaugural National Games at the Punggol Waterway on Wednesday.

And it’s already promising to be a noisy, lively affair.

It may not be the Olympics, but if the preview was anything to go by, the Games are set to get off to a flying start.

More than 12,000 athletes, officials and members of the public are expected to be at the ceremony on 1 September from 5pm.

Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong will be the Guest—of—Honour.

Organised by the Ministry of Community Development, Youth and Sports, the People’s Association and the Singapore Sports Council, the Games will take place across the island before closing on 9 September.

The biennial event will see 15 GRC clusters compete in 10 different sports including athletics, basketball, football, sepak takraw, swimming and table tennis.
