President Tony Tan underlines warmth of longstanding S’pore—UK ties

SINGAPORE: President Tony Tan Keng Yam underlined the warmth of longstanding relations between the United Kingdom and Singapore, during a reception at Buckingham Palace hosted by Queen Elizabeth II on Friday.

The reception was for visiting Heads of State and Heads of Government to the Olympic Games.

Singapore’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) said at the reception, President Tan conveyed his congratulations and best wishes to the Queen on the hosting of the Games.

He also personally extended to the Queen Singapore’s heartiest congratulations on the celebration of her Diamond Jubilee.

After the reception, President Tan attended the Olympic Games opening ceremony.

Also present at the ceremony were Deputy Prime Minister Teo Chee Hean, who is there in his capacity as President of the Singapore National Olympic Council, and Acting Minister for Community Development, Youth and Sports Chan Chun Sing.
