Policies are not enough for a bright future, a healthy economy is also needed: PM Lee Hsien Loong
Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong says Singapore's policies set a strong foundation for a bright future
But he added that policies alone are not sufficient.
Mr Lee stressed there is also a need for a healthy economy to create good jobs and generate resources to achieve other goals.
This means enterprises and companies must break new ground, develop new businesses and share the fruits of success with their workers.
Mr Lee is confident that over time a more vibrant and competitive SME sector will be created.
Despite these challenges the PM Lee says the outlook for Singapore businesses is bright
This is because many companies have upgraded themselves and seized opportunities overseas.
In addition Singapore has a first-class workforce which is well educated, hardworking and comfortable operating in Asia and the west.
The PM was speaking at the 57th Council installation ceremony of the Singapore Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry
The ceremony today also saw a new President for the chamber.
Thomas Chua takes over from outgoing President Teo Siong Seng.
