Police bust illegal gambling den in Geylang

SINGAPORE: Police have arrested nine men aged between 36 and 61 for operating and gaming in an illegal gambling den guised as an association.

The six—hour operation started at about 9.00pm on September 13.

Officers from Bedok Police Division raided the illegal gambling den located at Geylang Road.

Preliminary investigations revealed that one of the suspects, a 61—year—old man, operated the illegal gambling den while the rest of the suspects were patrons.

Four electronic mahjong tables and 15 sets of mahjong tiles were seized.

The nine suspects will be charged in Court on Monday.

Anyone convicted of an offence of managing a place to be used as a common gaming house can be fined a minimum of S$5,000 and jailed a maximum of three years.

As for the players, anyone convicted of an offence of gaming in a common gaming house can be fined a maxiumum of S$5,000 or jailed a maximum of six months, or both.
