PM Lee has served a notice of defamation to blogger Alex Au
Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong has sent a letter of demand to blogger Alex Au over a defamatory post published on his blog, Yawning Bread.
The article, titled "PAP mis-AIMed, faces blowback", concerns the sale of computer systems used by town councils to the firm Action Information Management (AIM).
The letter, from Drew and Napier Senior Counsel Davinder Singh, said the blog post contained "very serious suggestions of criminal breach of trust" and, by the references to the Corrupt Practices Investigation Bureau and the Attorney-General's Chambers, "of corruption".
It added that the post also drew defamatory comments from readers, and listed 21 comments.
The letter said the comments are false and baseless allegations.
According to the letter Mr Lee would give Mr Au the chance to apologise and remove the libel without claiming damages and cost.
Among the conditions, Mr Au must immediately remove the posts and publish an apology on his blog site within three days.
In a statement, Mr Au said he "accepts" that parts of his article and comments from readers are defamatory and "will take them down as requested".
He said he will also put up a letter of apology.
As of 6pm, Mr Au's posts on the town councils were still on his blog.
