Planned illegal protest at Merlion Park may not be held
Singapore police have confirmed they have received information of a planned illegal protest this weekend at the Merlion Park, against the recent Malaysian General Elections results.
The statement comes in response to media queries about the event.
Police noted there were allegations that it would allow the protest to take place, if it was positioned as a flash mob.
However, Police say this is not true.
And Police have spoken to the organiser of the event.
Police say the organiser has admitted that no such advice was given to her, and that she has informed Police she will be cancelling the planned event.
Police also say that outdoor demonstrations for any cause generally require a police permit, whether it is a flash mob event or a protest.
And members of the public who take part in such unlawful activities which threaten the peace and public order of Singapore can be arrested and prosecuted for breaking the law.
