Pilot plant on Jurong Island to further research in powering cities sustainably

A pilot plant has been commissioned on Jurong Island, which converts waste heat into energy to power a building's air-conditioning, minimising electricity consumption.

The plant marks the successful completion of a milestone in the three-year research collaboration between A*STAR's Experimental Power Grid Centre or EPGC and Hitachi.

They estimate that implementing such a system would increase energy efficiency to 52 per cent from 36 per cent.

The plant will function as a platform to explore new research ideas for potential energy savings benefits.
