SINGAPORE: Parliament will debate a host of issues when it sits on Monday, 10 September, including the tender and procurement process for the purchase of Brompton bicycles, cycling, and safety concerns on MRT trains.

Members of Parliament (MPs) have tabled 77 questions for debate.

Another 23 questions have been tabled for written reply.

NParks’ purchase of the Brompton bicycles will be brought up again. MPs will ask about the specifics of the tender and procurement process for these bicycles, an update on the investigation as well as the budget set for the purchase of such items.

Another matter up for debate is the safety of cyclists and how to integrate cycling into the traffic system in Singapore.

MP Er Dr Lee Bee Wah will ask about plans to address the safety and health concerns of passengers travelling on overcrowded MRT trains.

Nominated MP Assoc Prof Eugene Tan will ask if there were breaches of rules and regulations governing outdoor rallies by political parties during the last three general elections and the recent by—election.

He will ask if the government had exercised any control or influence over the media during the Hougang by—election campaign in May 2012.

Following the debate on bills, Non—Constituency MP Yee Jenn Jong will speak on the motion "proposal for transforming the childcare sector" for 20 minutes.
