Parliament Speaker Halimah is Advisor to National Council of Social Service

Speaker of Parliament Halimah Yacob will continue to share her experience and understanding of grounds concerns - as Advisor to the National Council of Social Service (NCSS).

She takes on the role with immediate effect.

NCSS, the umbrella body for about 400 voluntary welfare organisations in Singapore, is the lead agency for developing the social service sector.

It said on Wednesday that Mdm Halimah is an ardent advocate for the less privileged and a strong supporter of the social service sector.

NCSS said it'll be able to draw on her interaction with a wide segment of society, passion to make lives better and insights into social issues.

Mdm Halimah is the first NCSS Advisor and is the first Speaker to be involved in social service in such a capacity.
