Paralysed man who accused Sembawang Town Council of negligence resolves case

A resident who accused Sembawang Town Council of negligence after he became paralysed in a fall has resolved the case with the town council - four days into the hearing.

Mr Aw Kian Chow, 55, filed a negligence suit against the town council after he slipped and fell along a sheltered walkway while walking home on a rainy evening in 2008.

He injured his spinal cord and became paralysed.

Lawyers of both parties were tight-lipped and would only say that the matter is now closed.

They said the terms of the matter are confidential.

Mr Aw had accused the town council of failing to maintain the walkway to ensure the safety of residents.

He sought damages for the injuries he suffered, as well as loss of earnings and medical expenses.

The town council refuted his allegation, saying the walkway was properly maintained.

Four witnesses, including Mr Aw and his wife, took the stand during the hearing.
