SINGAPORE: The ruling People’s Action Party (PAP) cadres elected a new central executive committee (CEC) for the first time since old guards like former Prime Ministers Lee Kuan Yew and Goh Chok Tong stepped down last year.
The CEC is the party’s highest decision—making body.
Fourth—generation leaders like Education Minister Heng Swee Keat, Acting Social and Family Development Minister Chan Chun Sing and Minister in the Prime Minister’s Office Grace Fu made it to the top 12.
The members of the new CEC are Lee Hsien Loong, Khaw Boon Wan, Yaacob Ibrahim, Teo Chee Hean, Tharman Shanmugaratnam, Lim Swee Say, K Shanmugam, Chan Chun Sing, Grace Fu, Gan Kim Yong, Heng Swee Keat and Ng Eng Hen.
Two others were co—opted. They are Acting Manpower Minister Tan Chuan—Jin and Environment and Water Resources Minister, Dr Vivian Balakrishnan.
