Singapore's People's Action Party, PAP, has introduced two new award categories this year for its annual awards ceremony to recognise the many contributions made by outstanding men and women from the Party.
The two new categories are the Dedicated Service Star* Award and the Long Service Medal - Special Awards.
The most prestigious award this year, the Meritorious Service Medal, is conferred on Mr S Puhaindran, from the Marine Parade Branch.
A statement from the PAP Headquarters says Mr Puhaindran has served the Party for 35 years, having come forward to help in the December 1976 General Election (GE).
It says he has played an integral role in building up the PAP Marine Parade branch to what it is today.
He has been the Election Agent for Marine Parade in the past GEs as well as the Principal Election Agent for Marine Parade GRC.
His active participation has contributed to the success of the PAP's victory at the polls.
MP for Marine Parade GRC, Emeritus Senior Minister Goh Chok Tong says, "He was very much the proxy local MP for Marine Parade during my term as PM when I did not do Meet-the-people-session. His contributions stretch from 1976 to today. He was selfless in sharing his knowledge with other newer party members."
The inaugural Dedicated Service Star* Award goes to Mr Ong Eng Kam from Changi-Simei (East Coast GRC).
The Award's conferred on exceptionally deserving members who have served their branch for 50 or more years -- the longest service term for any award.
The PAP will hold its award ceremony on Saturday evening.
