SINGAPORE: Overseas voting for the Punggol East by—election will take place at all Singapore’s nine overseas polling stations, including Tokyo, London, Shanghai and New York.
The Elections Department said there are 59 overseas registered voters out of 31,649 registered voters in the single—seat ward.
The constituency is located in the north—east of the country and covers the eastern area of Sengkang.
It was carved out of the Pasir Ris—Punggol group representation constituency during the 2011 General Election.
Nomination Day takes place on January 16 at North Vista Secondary School.
When filing nomination papers, the candidate must be accompanied by a proposer, a seconder, and at least four assentors, all of whom must be registered voters of Punggol East.
The candidate has to submit a Political Donation Certificate, which has to be applied for at the Elections Department before 1pm on January 12.
The candidate must also pay an election deposit of S$14,500.
If there is a contest, Punggol East will head to the polls on January 26.
There will be 10 polling stations, as in the last general election.
With the possibility of a multi—cornered fight in Punggol East, the number of rally sites available could be an issue, especially if more than three parties contest.
Channel NewsAsia understands details will be announced after Nomination Day, but the Police said they will ensure all parties have a fair chance to conduct their rallies.
There will be two counting centres, North Vista Secondary School and Rivervale Primary School.
Results will be announced at North Vista Secondary.
