SINGAPORE: Over 8,000 runners took part in Safari Zoo Run 2014 on Sunday. The race spanned the Singapore Zoo and Night Safari, taking runners through lush green paths and animal exhibits.
Unlike the usual lazy Sunday morning spent lounging in the treetops, orangutans in the zoo watched on curiously as runners raced past.
The event was started six years ago in memory of the zoo's orangutan matriarch Ah Meng.
One of Singapore's most loved and iconic animal personalities, Ah Meng died of old age in February 2008.
Wildlife Reserves Singapore said a portion of the proceeds from this year's race will go towards the care of endangered animals in Night Safari and Singapore Zoo. - CNA/ac
