SINGAPORE: It is lights, camera and action for some children attending a PAP Community Foundation or PCF kindergarten at Teck Ghee.
Taking on the role of film directors, the children made props out of Lego blocks and recycled materials.
They also scripted and produced their very own animation video within two weeks.
The kindergarten is one of 18 to be awarded the Outstanding (Kindergarten) Innovation Award.
A S$4,000 grant from the Ministry of Education Innovation Grant allowed them to buy equipment like a digital camera and projector.
Senior Minister of State for Education and Law Indranee Rajah said she hopes more kindergartens will tap on this grant.
"What’s really good about it is that: one, it stimulates the creativity; but two, it makes the children work as a team and it gives them responsibility What we hope is that other centres for kindergartens can also take advantage of the innovation grant, use it for their students," she said.
The kindergarten Principal Valery Toh said that through the project the children gain confidence skills.
"It also helps them in their literacy development as well because they need to sit together and write about their story," she added.
