SINGAPORE: Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong said the discussions on "Our Singapore" are off to a good start.

Mr Lee said on his Facebook page on Wednesday that Education Minister Heng Swee Keat and his committee will be joining in the conversation with as many Singaporeans as possible, both online and in person.

He urged Singaporeans to take part and share their views on the Singapore they would like to see and which they can all be proud of.

Last Saturday, Mr Heng outlined the approach of the committee that will spearhead the large—scale effort to involve citizens in charting the basis of future policies, programmes and action plans.

He also advised Singaporeans not to expect to see immediate results, although broad directions will be set out.

Mr Heng said what is also essential is for Singaporeans to forge a deeper understanding of the values they hold, their key concerns and to agree on some areas that will form the basis of future policies.

He added that he hopes to see this as a sincere, authentic and respectful conversation, grounded on reasons and facts, as well as respect for each other’s views.
