SINGAPORE: Potential candidate Ooi Boon Ewe has been issued a Political Donation Certificate, which is one of the requirements for those to want to contest in the Punggol East by—election on 26 January.

Mr Ooi collected the certificate at the Elections Department on Monday at 10.45am.

He told reporters that he’s "serious" about contesting.

He added that he has been meeting residents in the ward through block visits and at the neighbourhood malls.

Mr Ooi had previously collected nomination papers for the the 2011 General and Presidential Elections, but failed to run as a candidate.

The Elections Department said it received 14 applications for the Political Donation Certificate before the deadline on 12 January.

He collected the document just after 1pm.

Mr Zeng said he intends to stand as an independent candidate after he had met residents in Punggol East over the weekend.
