SINGAPORE: A search and rescue operation is now on for a missing crew member of an Indonesian—registered coaster craft that sank on early Saturday morning in the West Keppel Fairway.

The coaster craft, Budi Jasa 18, sank at around 6.25am after a collision with a passenger ferry Sea Hawk that was moving from Pasir Panjang Ferry Terminal to Pulau Bukom.

The Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) said the collision happened about 3.5 kilometers south of Pasir Panjang Ferry Terminal.

There were six Indonesians on board the coaster craft. Five of them were rescued.

The ferry was carrying 200 passengers at the time of the incident.

MPA said eight passengers were injured.

Five were sent to Bukom Clinic to receive medical treatment for cuts and abrasions. Three others were sent to Alexandra Hospital.

MPA said it has issued navigational broadcasts to vessels in the vicinity to keep clear of the search and rescue area and to report any sighting of the missing person.

MPA added that port operations are unaffected and that it is investigating the incident.
