SINGAPORE: The number of halal certificates issued by Islamic Religious Council of Singapore (MUIS) increased by 12.5 per cent last year compared to the previous year.
Last year, the number of halal certificates issued was 23,005. In 2012, 20,436 of such certificates were given out.
Last year’s number is the highest in the last three years.
MUIS said that one of the reasons is more food products have been certified halal.
Applications for storage and preparation facilities also contributed to the rise. - CNA/ec
