NTUC's Heng urges bosses to do more to package jobs to fill vacancies

The labour movement says employers should do more to package jobs to attract those who're not working to fill job vacancies. 

Deputy Secretary-General of the National Trades Union Congress (NTUC) Heng Chee How says the latest labour market figures show that there're more vacancies.
Many vacancies are also taking longer to be filled.

Mr Heng, who's also Senior Minister of State in the Prime Minister's Office, said employers should do more to retain older workers, as well as treat and reward them fairly.

He also urged them to motivate older workers to continue to give of their best, for as long as they can and want to. 

Mr Heng, who made the call in a post on his Facebook page, described this as win-win.

Earlier in the week, the Manpower Ministry said in a report that the number of job vacancies rose by 4.4 per cent to hit 56,400 in September 2012. 

The report, covering the year up till September 2012, said the biggest number of vacancies was service and sales - at 12,430. 

They made up 24 per cent of total vacancies.
