NTUC sets up 2 new centres for PME advisory services
The National Trades Union Congress or N-T-U-C, is setting up two new centres to provide Professionals, Managers, and Executives - or PMEs - with employability assistance and legal advisory services.
This was announced at NTUC's on-going biennial Ordinary Delegates' Conference.
By 20-30, it's estimated that two-thirds of Singaporeans will be PMEs.
And with it, NTUC's Secretary General, Lim Swee Say foresees an increase in this area of employment-related needs.
Currently, only one in five PMEs belongs to a union.
Mr Lim hopes it will soon be one in four.
Three new measures announced at this year's NTUC Ordinary Delegates' Conference are targeted at this.
First, two PMEs Centres will be set up by the end of the year, one at the e-2-i campus, and the other at NTUC's One Marina Boulevard Centre.
Next, a review of the Industrial Relations Act is underway to allow unions to represent all workers - including PMEs.
The NTUC will also partner more professional bodies, under the U Associate programme.
This will enable PMEs registered with them to get union help and support.
