NTUC Deputy Secretary General Ong Ye Kung confirms he's stepping down from labour movement

NTUC Deputy Secretary-General Ong Ye Kung will step down in two months' time.

In a statement, NTUC says he will leave its Administration and Research Unit (ARU) on 25 November 2012 to pursue other career interests.

Since joining NTUC-ARU in December 2008, Mr Ong has held various key posts in NTUC, including Assistant Secretary-General and Deputy Secretary-General.

He has also chaired NTUC's Employment and Employability Institute (e2i) since December 2008.

NTUC says under Mr Ong's leadership, e2i grew to become a leading organisation in enhancing the employability of workers and matching better employment to jobseekers.

Since its formation, e2i has helped more than 200,000 workers, especially the lower wage and less skilled ones.

NTUC says after leaving NTUC-ARU, Mr Ong will continue to serve as Chairman of e2i, and adviser to unions.
