NTU sets up teaching excellence academy
The Nanyang Technological University or NTU has set up a new academy to drive teaching excellence university-wide.
The NTU Teaching Excellence Academy will promote best teaching practices by the university's award-winning professors and lecturers.
It will also fund various projects to develop innovative teaching for more effective learning through a 4 hundred thousand dollar research fund.
And eleven projects are currently underway.
The Academy will include professors who have previously won school- or college- level awards for their teaching excellence.
It will also start a university-level award for professors with good teaching practices.
They will be awarded with a medal, the Academy's fellowship, a cash prize of $5,000 and a research grant between $10,000 to $15,000.
The Academy will start with the induction of 12 professors.
They will mentor other faculty staff beyond their disciplines in NTU.
Provost Professor Freddy Boey says both faculty staff and students stand to benefit from the Academy.
"Young faculty who join us will be given all help necessary to coach them, to help them achieve a high level of teaching. But I think at the end of the day, they must want to be great teachers. They must want to aspire to do that. I hope the teaching academy will inspire to do that, it's a great achievement when you become a professor who is really well known for great teaching among students."
