New Singapore Food Safety Management systems standards for food manufacturers
A new Singapore safety standard has been launched for food manufacturers.
It's called the new SS 590:2013 and is closely aligned to the international ISO food safety management system standard (ISO 22000).
Teh new standard covers the entire food chain from sourcing to distribution and the sale of food.
The Singapore Standards Council says the new standard brings two main benefits to more than 800 food manufacturers in Singapore.
First, it will help enhance their branding in food safety which in turn helps them in exporting overseas.
Second, since it's closely aligned to the international ISO food safety management system standard, it'll be easier for companies that have implemented SS 590 to upgrade to the international standard if required.
The council says this will be particularly helpful for small and medium-sized enterprises which may not have sufficient capabilities and resources to immediately adopt the international standard.
