New rehabilitative healthcare facility to push patients towards independence

The Changi General Hospital and St Andrew's Community Hospital are introducing a new model of care to help the ageing population cope with injuries and illnesses.

This will be rolled out at a new eight-storey building called The Integrated Building.

The 280-bed building will integrate a range of rehabilitation facilities and services within a home-like ward environment.

The concept of cluster housing aims to help patients play an active role in their recovery and learn to be independent.

Both hospitals say this will enable patients to prepare for the transition back home.

The new building located next to the Changi General Hospital's main building is expected to be completed by 2014.
