SINGAPORE: A new Character and Leadership academy has been set up specifically for youths.
Chairman of the Government Parliamentary Committee for Education Lim Biow Chuan launched the academy on Saturday.
Set up by AGAPE Group Holdings, a youth development organisation, the academy seeks to engage and equip youths with the necessary leadership skills for personal development.
It aims to reach out to 500,000 youths from Singapore and other countries.
The launch was part of a youth leadership forum organised by Bytes@Campus.
For the 180 youths who attended, it was also an opportunity to spread festive cheer this Lunar New Year.
About 75 needy elderly were invited to the event.
During the forum, Mr Lim said being a leader means having more than just academic achievements.
"Singapore does not only need people who have intellectual ability. Singapore needs people with integrity, who are honest and who can lead the country forward because of who they are and not because of the number of As behind them," he said.
