SINGAPORE: Two victories and two defeats meant the final group match of the Nations Cup for hosts Singapore against Sri Lanka was critical.
The battle between Singapore and Sri Lanka was a repeat encounter of the Asian Championships final in 2012.
Then, Singapore came out tops to be crowned Asian Champions but the latest match turned out differently.
The South Asian side were in control as they relied on their tall players to deliver the goals.
The visitors led the first three quarters, but Singapore fought back in the final quarter — taking it 16 to 15.
But Sri Lanka went on to win 65—52.
Singapore’s loss means they will now fight for 5th or 6th spot on Saturday when they meet the Republic of Ireland.
The Irish playing in the first match on Friday, suffered their fifth straight defeat, losing to Malaysia 49—35.
In another match, Tanzania beat Namibia 48—43.
Tanzania and Malaysia will square off for the top spot.
