SINGAPORE: Singapore’s Elections Department incurred an expense of nearly S$840,800 to conduct the Punggol East by—election in January.

In a written reply to a question in Parliament, Deputy Prime Minister Teo Chee Hean said the expenses included the cost of printing ballot papers and election materials, rental of equipment, transportation costs and allowances paid to election officials.

The Punggol East by—election saw a four—cornered fight with voters going to the polls on 26 January.

The Workers’ Party’s candidate Lee Li Lian was voted into Parliament as the Member of Parliament for Punggol East.
