Myanmar parliamentary speaker in S’pore for visit

SINGAPORE: Speaker of the Lower House of Myanmar’s Parliament, Thura U Shwe Mann, is in Singapore for a four—day visit, from September 23 to September 26.

His trip here is at the invitation of Singapore’s Speaker of Parliament Michael Palmer.

A statement from the Clerk Of Parliament said the visit reaffirms the warm relations between both countries.

While in Singapore, Mr Shwe Mann will meet Mr Palmer, who will host him to lunch and a tour of Parliament House.

Mr Shwe Mann will also meet Acting President J Y Pillay, Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong, Emeritus Senior Minister Goh Chok Tong, and be hosted to dinner by Second Minister for Foreign Affairs Grace Fu.

Separately, he will be hosted to briefings by the Presidential Council for Minority Rights, the National Library, and the Land Transport Authority. He will also visit a NEWater plant, and observe a Meet—the—People session.

Mr Shwe Mann will be accompanied by five Myanmar Members of Parliament, officials, and business representatives.
