SINGAPORE: Muslims in Singapore will celebrate Hari Raya Aidilfitri on Sunday after the Ramadan fasting month.
The Mufti of Singapore, Dr Mohamed Fatris Bakaram, said this is based on astronomical calculations, among other things.
The Minister—in—charge of Muslim Affairs Dr Yaacob Ibrahim also wished all Muslims Selamat Hari Raya Aidilfitri.
Dr Yaacob said building a better future starts with the family, which is the pillar of society.
He said families that are strong overcome difficulties much more than material well—being can.
He also highlighted the recent success of three Malay award recipients — President Scholar Adil Hakeem Mohamad Rafee, Public Service Commission Scholar Maryam Hasanah Rozlan and winner of the Lee Kuan Yew Gold Medal, Muhammad Kamal Jauhari Zaini.
He said all of them have family members who’re supportive and inspiring.
Dr Yaacob also urged the Malay—Muslim community to continue to look out for one another, particularly the less well—off and the youth.
Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong also wished all Muslims Selamat Hari Raya Aidilfitri.
