More than 200 jobs on offer at the first heartland recruitment drive
Northeast Community Development Council has held its first recruitment drive to help heartland businesses in the district with their staff shortage.
The event in Hougang offered more than 200 positions for jobs like stall assistants, cleaners and cashiers.
Those taking part in the recruitment drive include the Kopitiam Group of Companies, 881 Hougang Food House, YES Supermarket, and several food stalls in the area.
Mayor of the North East District, Teo Ser Luck, explains why the CDC decided to have the first recruitment drive in Hougang.
"I do have a good representation of coffee shops in this area. The merchant association here is also very supportive. Here has a good concentration of coffee shops and jobs, and I try to help the residents here. There's a fair number of residents here who are low income and job seekers. I want to make sure they are matched."
Mr Teo adds that more than 20 merchant associations have signed up for the recruitment drive which is being rolled out within the North East District.
Two more recruitment drives will be held later this year in Tampines and Pasir Ris-Punggol.
YES Supermarket's Kwek Hong Lim, says he hopes to recruit more workers to expand operations through this fair.
"It's good to bring this fair to the heartland. And this crowd usually stays around this area and to our shop. There's an incentive for them to look into our jobs that we are offering because of the proximity, it's so near to them."
