More sites to be considered for preschool centres
Acting Minister for Social and Family Development, Chan Chun Sing, says his ministry is looking at more ways to address the shortage of preschool places in new towns like Sengkang.
This includes siting such centres in multi-storey carparks or open fields.
Speaking in Parliament, Mr Chan acknowledged the limited number of void deck spaces given the way new HDB blocks are structured.
Several MPs also wanted to know what's being done to curb fee increases.
Mr Chan said his ministry has stringent guidelines in place, to ensure anchor operators do not raise fees beyond the industry median.
In the longer term, more will be done to grow the pool of quality teachers and help operators mitigate cost pressures in terms of salaries.
