SINGAPORE: A total of 8,770 students have registered for the MENDAKI Tuition Scheme (MTS) this year, an 11 per cent increase from 2012.
A survey of 426 students in the MTS showed that almost 90 per cent passed English in the Primary School Leaving Examination (PSLE) last year.
63 per cent passed Mathematics and 68 per cent passed Science.
A total of 1,377 students in the scheme sat for the PSLE in 2012.
In a written parliamentary response to Member of Parliament Zaqy Mohamad, Minister for Communications and Information and Minister—in—Charge of Muslim Affairs, Dr Yaacob Ibrahim outlined MENDAKI’s outreach strategies.
This includes leveraging both traditional media and social media platforms to widen its reach to the community.
MENDAKI also works with agencies such as the Islamic Religious Council of Singapore and mosques to widen its reach.
Dr Yaacob said MENDAKI will continue to ensure the quality of its tuition programmes by selecting qualified and committed tutors and provide them with customised training.
